Kids Bike Trailer

Instep Bike Trailer

The InStep Bike Trailer Quick N EZ model positions itself as a value product, and as such comes in at a good price point, and adds a stroller feature as an included bonus.

This model also touts its tool-free conversion process, which promises to enable the owner to go from kids bike trailer mode to bike trailer stroller mode without the need for tools. Unlike other manufacturers, this entry level model not only can be converted for use as a stroller, but it also can do so without the added cost of buying a stroller kit to provide the functionality. In that sense, this Instep bike trailer provides tremendous value.

The Quick N EZ model weighs twenty eight pounds, and seats two kids. Its capacity is rated at one hundred pounds, and the seating system is designed to secure the little ones using two five point harness systems.

The view from the Instep bike trailer is expansive, something the little munchkins will enjoy. Parents will enjoy the ease of the using the zip-up weather canopy which instantly provides a measure of protection from the elements, keeping wind, dust, debris and water away from the precious cargo in the trailer. The trailer itself has a cargo compartment on the rear, which can be used to store items for the outdoor adventure with the little ones.

The Instep bike trailer rides on 16 inch mag wheels which Instep advertises as rust proof. The wheels also employ a quick-release design, providing storage flexibility and transport convenience. The whole unit should be snap to store at home, and when not deployed, the Instep bike trailer folds to the following dimension: 31.5 x 30 x 16 inches. Fully deployed, the Instep bike trailer measures 55 x 32 x 33 inches. This kids bike trailer attaches to the bike through a universal coupler. When folded, the Instep bike trailer can be stowed in the trunk of most mid size sedans, and certainly in the storage area of activity vehicles such as SUVs, station wagons and crossovers.

Some have commented that the Instep bike trailer cannot comfortably accommodate two kids, given its current design. The hammock-style seating means the kids end up pressed up against each other, which makes for an uncomfortable ride. Additionally, the relatively small wheels contribute to a rougher ride, and the ventilation systems doesn’t quite do the job as one owner complained that every time she took her child out for a ride, he ends up beet red. Perhaps a breathable seat material, rather than canvas might do the trick. Also, despite the presence of a vent in the rear of the trailer, it seems the unit could use a bit more.

All in all, the Instep bike trailer Quick N EZ model is an excellent entry level choice that provides trailer and stroller functionality right out of the box. It is easy to deploy and equally easy to stow away.
